The idea of the system, organised by the local administrations, to work together to help develop the social and economic resources of North Rome by concentrating on the many natural and cultural resources present in the area that have never unfortunately been systematically valorised. "The system" is organizing many cultural visits each based on a specific idea, such as something to do with history, art, archaeology, minerals, nature but at the same time connected to each other. The museums, reserves and visitor's centres are the meeting place for each visit and also where one can book to go on the excursions or get general information on the following: guided tours, hiking, horse riding, mini buses, experimental archaeological or naturalist workshops, sleepovers, research, refreshments, accommodation in hotels, hostels, holiday farms, bed and breakfast, parking etc.

The project involves all local Authorities, cultural institutions, museums, archaeological areas, private residences, monuments, historical centres, old religious buildings, mining areas, reserves, natural monuments and protected oasis' found on the territory.
"The System" is situated in the heart of South Etruria not too far from Rome in a vast area once belonging to the Etruscan city Caere, one of the most interesting areas for its history and archaeology in Central Italy. It is also very interesting nature-wise as along the coast, mountains and lakes are still very well conserved.
With the help of public and private groups, the project wants to form a new way of organizing and running the territory: important natural sites, the countryside, ruins, to save and recuperate the historical "memories" that have stories to tell.
From this project new ways of development could be formed to help tourism, to live and visit the area and last but not least to create new jobs.
Without ruining the cultural and natural resources but guaranteeing the conservation and improving these resources, it could become one of the main points to improve socially and economically the area and assure a continuous and lasting development.
The project, founded by the Civic Museum of Santa Marinella is made up of the councils of Anguillara Sabazia, Cerveteri, Ladispoli, Manziana, Tolfa and Santa Marinella and together an intercouncil Association has been formed. Thanks to the first important financial contributions from the Lazio Region and Rome Province and the Archaeological Superintendent for South Etruria, the visitors centres and some of their programmes are being now organised.
